AI Product Engineer
A private capital markets business is transforming to become a digital AI-driven platform. The AI Product Engineer will be one of its first two technology hires, working directly with the CTO & Chief Digital Officer to build AI products.
In a team of 3, you’ll build the AI products that sit on the data foundation: document intelligence, a searchable knowledge layer over the firm's deal history, workflow automation and internal copilots for the deal team.
Your approach is rapid prototyping - pick a workflow that eats the team's time, put a rough version in front of users within 2 weeks, then evaluate and either kill or harden it.
This is a build role, not a support role. You'll share working software with real users within your first month, with close mentorship from the CTO.
What you'll do:
- Build document intelligence: LLM-based extraction of structured data from CIMs, financial statements, term sheets, legal agreements and DDQs
- Build a knowledge layer: retrieval-augmented search over deal history, research and documents, so institutional knowledge stops living in inboxes
- Automate repetitive specialist work such as deal screening, market scanning, investor reporting and DDQ/RFP drafting
- Own evaluation: build the harnesses that measure whether AI outputs are accurate enough for an investment context, because 'looks plausible' is not a bar
- Train the deal team on what you ship, run demos and lunch-and-learns, and iterate fast on their feedback
- Evaluate new models, frameworks and vendor tools, and recommend build-vs-buy with evidence
- Document everything (product notes, eval results, prompt and agent design decisions) so the platform outlives any one person
You will need:
- A degree (2:1 or above) in computer science, engineering, maths, physics or a similar quantitative field, or a demonstrable self-taught equivalent
- Solid Python, ideally with some TypeScript/JavaScript for lightweight UIs, and things you've built that you can show us
- Hands-on curiosity about LLMs: you've built something with a model API (OpenAI, Anthropic or Open-Weights), even if it's a personal project
- Product sense: this is a real-world, commercially driven role that will find you working at pace and where you ‘find your own way’
- Clear communication, as you'll demo to, and train, non-technical investment professionals
- Care and discretion with commercially sensitive financial data
- Any experience with RAG, embeddings, structured extraction, agent frameworks or LLM evaluation will be measurably useful
- Some exposure to finance
The culture fit is key: you’ll be naturally inquisitive, have a demonstrable can-do mindset, real enthusiasm for the work, an analytical/mathematical brain.
What you'll get:
- Direct mentorship from the CTO & Chief Digital Officer
- Ownership of AI products used daily by the whole firm
- A front-row seat to deal-making, fund structures and investor relations
- Real model/API budget and a mandate to use AI heavily in your own work
- Competitive salary, annual discretionary bonus, 25 days' leave plus UK bank holidays
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. This opening will not be suitable for someone seeking hybrid or fully remote.
All appointments are subject to background screening (identity, qualifications, references, criminal record, credit and sanctions checks).
