Data & Platform Engineer

Data & Platform Engineer

A private capital markets business is transforming to become a digital AI-driven platform. The Data & Platform Engineer will be one of its first two technology hires, working directly with the CTO and Chief Digital Officer to build the platform from the ground up.

You’ll own the data foundation, writing production code from week one, with close mentorship from the CTO. This is a real-world, commercially driven role that will find you working at pace and where you ‘find your own way’.

Private capital runs on scattered information. You'll turn that into a clean, governed, queryable data estate that every AI and digital product is built on.

What you'll do:

  • Map the firm's data: what it holds, where it lives, who owns it and what state it's in
  • Build pipelines into a central warehouse and design data models for funds, deals, portfolio companies, investors and valuations
  • Integrate the CRM, fund administration, accounting and data-room platforms via their APIs
  • Set up data quality checks, deduplication, entity resolution and access controls for sensitive LP and deal data
  • Work with the AI & Product Engineer to serve clean data to AI workflows
  • Maintain internal tooling and automations
  • Document everything (data dictionaries, runbooks, architecture notes) so the platform outlives any one person

You will need:

  • A degree (2:1 or above) in computer science, engineering, maths, physics or a similar quantitative field, or a demonstrable self-taught equivalent
  • Solid Python and SQL, with code you can show
  • An instinct for turning messy information into clean, well-modelled data
  • Care and discretion with commercially sensitive financial data
  • Comfort with ambiguity: a small team defining things as it goes, not a rotation programme
  • The culture fit is key: you’ll be naturally inquisitive, have a demonstrable can-do mindset, real enthusiasm for the work, an analytical/mathematical brain
  • Exposure to a cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP) or a warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery or Postgres at scale) is strongly preferable
  • Familiarity with dbt, Airflow, Dagster or Prefect, or an interest in learning them
  • Some exposure to finance

What you'll get:

  • Direct mentorship from the CTO and Chief Digital Officer
  • Ownership of the firm's data platform
  • A front-row seat to deal-making, fund structures and investor relations
  • Modern tooling and a mandate to use AI heavily in your own work
  • Competitive salary, annual discretionary bonus, 25 days' leave plus UK bank holidays

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. This opening will not be suitable for someone seeking hybrid or fully remote.

All appointments are subject to background screening (identity, qualifications, references, criminal record, credit and sanctions checks).

  • Salary :£35-42k + bonus
  • Position :Permanent
  • Location :London
  • Workplace :Office Based
  • Employment type :Full Time
  • Benefits :Pension
  • Visa Sponsorship :Not Available
